The Dog Creek Bridge was built in 1927 and carried travelers on
historic Route 99 until it was abandoned after the construction of
Interstate 5. This beautiful bridge is located in the Sacramento River
Canyon north of Lakehead, California. Bonus: in October the area
comes alive with fall colors. Directions: (high clearance vehicle
recommended) I-5 north of Lakehead exit Delta/Vollmers (#707),
turn left (west) and travel 1/4 mile. Turn left (south) on Fender's
Ferry Road. This road is unpaved and high-clearance vehicles are
recommended. Go about 1 mile down to bridge. Limited parking. Access
to Sacramento River for fishing. Please note: 4WD is needed to
continue east on Fender's Ferry Road (Road 34N17)
